Tristan G. Montaque was born and raised in Miami, Florida. Tristan is second of three sons of two loving Jamaican parents who emigrated to the United States while they were still teenagers. Tristan developed a love and talent for oration at a young age. Throughout his secondary education, Tristan was a member of the Future Business Leaders of America organization where he competed in the Prepared Speaking competition and consistently placed First in the District and Top 5 in the state of Florida every year he competed.
Tristan graduated from the University of Miami in 2012 with a double major in International Studies and English Literature and a minor in Music. While at the University of Miami, Tristan was a member of the Hurricane Debate Team where he competed in numerous intercollegiate Cross Examination Policy Debate competitions and won a number of Speaker Awards. Tristan also participated as a member of the University of Miami Mock Trial Team where he also won a number of Best Advocate and Best Witness awards.
Tristan also has a talent and passion for music and singing. Throughout his undergraduate career, Tristan has shared the stage and has provided background vocals for a number of Grammy and Stellar-nominated recording artists, including gospel artists Byron Cage and Helen Baylor. He has also been featured in Latin recording artist Juanes's CD entitled "Juanes: MTV Unplugged", which won a Grammy for Best Latin Pop Album. Tristan has also toured throughout Europe where he performed Gospel, Spiritual, and Classical music along with other talented artists.
After completing his undergraduate studies, Tristan attended the Cleveland Institute of Music where he was a graduate student in the Professional Studies program. While at CIM, Tristan studied Classical Voice/Opera Performance under the tutelage of Mr. Clifford Billions and internationally-renowned American tenor, Mr. Vinson Cole. It was at CIM where Tristan had the opportunity to serve as Principal Stage Manager for the 2012-2013 Opera Theater season and performed in his very first opera as Monostatos in Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte.
However, it was his experiences with public speaking, policy debate, and mock trial that caused Tristan to come to the realization that a career in law was what he needed to pursue. Therefore, after leaving CIM, Tristan decided to attend the University of Florida Levin College of Law. In addition to its competitive tuition and high ranking in the state of Florida, Tristan felt that being part of the Gator Nation would provide him with the best opportunities for networking and for receiving a world-class legal education.
At UF Law, Tristan participates in a number of activities and organizations. Tristan is a member of the Florida Journal of Technology Law & Policy, the Student Recruitment Team, and the Florida Alternative Dispute Resolution Team where he competed in the 2015 ABA Arbitration competition. Tristan is also a musical theater buff and continues to wait for the opportunity to pursue his life-long dream of playing Simba on Broadway.
